UNECSO takes monuments out from 'In Danger List'

UNESCO has voted not to include Seven Protected Monument Zones of the Kathmandu Valley World Heritage Property damaged by devastating quake of April 25 in its ‘In Danger List.

The decision was made during the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Bonn of Germany on Thursday in response to the State of Conservation Report submitted by Bhesh Narayan Dahal, Director General of the Department of Archaeology. The International Council on Monument and Sites including International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property had suggested UNESCO to put the severely damaged Seven Protected Monument Zones in UNESCO’s ‘In Danger List’.

According to officials at the DoA, the WHC opted to exclude the monuments from the ‘In Danger List’ this year, but will review the status of the sites next year to take a final decision.
