Overview

The Annapurna Circuit Trek is one of the most popular trekking routes in Nepal, known for its stunning scenery and diverse landscapes. The trek is typically 160-230 km long, depending on the specific itinerary, and takes about 18-21 days to complete.

Starting from the town of Besishahar, the trek leads through lush forests, deep river valleys, and high mountain passes, culminating in stunning views of the Annapurna massif and other Himalayan peaks. One of the highlights of the trek is the visit to Tilicho Lake, a beautiful turquoise-colored lake located at an altitude of 4,919 meters above sea level.

After Besishahar, the trek leads to the village of Chame, where the landscape begins to change as the trekker enters the alpine region. From Chame, the trail leads to Manang, a beautiful village nestled in a valley surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks.

From Manang, the trek continues to the high altitude village of Muktinath, which is a sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists. Here, trekkers can visit the Muktinath temple and the 108 water spouts, which are believed to have healing properties.

The trek then heads to the picturesque village of Marpha, famous for its apple orchards and traditional architecture. From Marpha, the trail leads to Tatopani, where trekkers can relax in natural hot springs and take a break from the challenging terrain.

Finally, the trek concludes in the lakeside town of Pokhara, where trekkers can enjoy stunning views of the Annapurna range and relax by the beautiful Phewa Lake.

Trip Itinerary

1

Day 1 : Arrive Kathmandu

Meet and greet at the Airport and transfer to hotel. Short briefing of Tour / Trekking, check in to the Hotel. Free afternoon. If your flight in the afternoon, evening Typical Nepali Dinner with Live cultural performances shows. If your flight is late then Dinner and Culture program will be shifted to next day or we can keep it for last day as well as a farewell Dinner. Overnight Hotel.

Day 2: Kathmandu – Hiking to Chandagiri Hills (3-4hrs) (2500m.)

After Breakfast about 830am – 9am, 40 minutes drive to Chandagiri Hill base camp to start day hike. Hiking about 3-4hrs to Chandagiri Hill situated (2500m) height from there you may watch beautiful view. Have a Lunch there and back to base camp by Cable Car ride then drive Back to Hotel. Overnight Hotel.

Day 3: Kathmandu to Besishahar (about 5-6hrs Drive)

After Breakfast drive by Jeep to Besishahar about 5-6hrs. On the way stop for Lunch and toilet. Driving in a private jeep from Kathmandu to Besishahar is a popular option for trekkers and travelers looking to explore the beautiful Annapurna region in Nepal. The distance between Kathmandu and Besishahar is approximately 185 kilometers, and the drive takes around 5-6hours, depending on road conditions and traffic. The road winds through scenic countryside, traditional villages, and lush green forests, offering stunning views of the Himalayan landscape. Along the way, trekkers can make a quick stop at the picturesque town of Mugling, which serves as a major junction for several highways in Nepal. From Mugling, the road continues to Dumre, where you can take a turn to reach Besishahar. Besishahar is a bustling town located at the foothills of the Annapurna range, and it serves as the gateway to several popular trekking routes in the region. The town offers a range of accommodation options, restaurants, and shops, making it a convenient base for trekkers and travelers. Overnight hotel.

Day 4 : Besishahar to Chame (2650m) (6-7hr Drive)

After Breakfast drive to headquarter of Manang – Chame. The drive from Besishahar to Chame is a scenic and adventurous journey through the Himalayan terrain of Nepal. The route follows the Marsyangdi River and passes through lush green forests, cascading waterfalls, and traditional Nepali villages. The road is mostly unpaved and can be rough in some sections, but the stunning mountain views make it all worth it. The distance between Besishahar and Chame is approximately 65 kilometers, and it can take around 6-7 hours to cover this distance, depending on road conditions and traffic. On the way Lunch break. Day 5: Chame - Pisang (3190m) (5-6hrs Trekking)

Trekking from Chame to Pisang starts after Breakfast in Chame, The trekking route from Chame to Pisang is a beautiful and relatively moderate section of the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal. The trail winds through dense forests, charming traditional villages, and terraced farmland with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Along the way, trekkers will cross the Marsyangdi River multiple times via suspension bridges and encounter Tibetan-influenced cultures and lifestyles. Pisang village is known for its historic monastery and stunning views of the Pisang Peak. The trek from Chame to Pisang covers a distance of approximately 16 kilometers and can take around 5-6hours depending on individual hiking abilities and pace. Day 6: Pisang - Manang (3520m) (4-5hrs Trekking)

The trekking route from Pisang to Manang is a picturesque and challenging section of the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal. The trail follows the Marsyangdi River and ascends through a steep, rocky terrain with spectacular views of the Annapurna range. Along the way, trekkers will encounter traditional Tibetan-style villages, ancient monasteries, and prayer wheels. The highest point of this section is the challenging Thorong La Pass, which stands at an altitude of 5,416 meters above sea level. Manang is a beautiful village located at the foothills of the Gangapurna mountain with stunning views of the Annapurna range. The trek from Pisang to Manang covers a distance of approximately 14 kilometers and can take around 4-5 hours, depending on individual hiking abilities and pace. The trek is challenging due to the high altitude and steep terrain, so it is essential to acclimatize well and be well-prepared for this section. Lunch will be served on the way. Day 7: Manang Rest Day for acclimatization (3520m) (day hiking)

Manang offers some fantastic day hiking options for acclimatization during the Annapurna Circuit Trek. One of the popular day hikes in the area is the hike to Gangapurna Lake and Glacier. The trail starts from Manang village and climbs up gradually through a beautiful landscape of alpine forests, wildflowers, and mountain streams. As the hike continues, trekkers will reach the picturesque Gangapurna Lake and get a chance to see the stunning Gangapurna Glacier up close. The hike offers fantastic views of the surrounding mountains and is an excellent opportunity to acclimatize to the high altitude of the region. Another option for a day hike in Manang is the hike to the nearby village of Khangsar. The trail starts from Manang and leads through a beautiful landscape of rolling hills, farmland, and traditional Tibetan-style villages. The hike offers a glimpse into the local culture and lifestyle of the region, and trekkers can explore the Khangsar village and its ancient monasteries. Both these day hikes are excellent options for acclimatization and offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains and landscape. It is essential to acclimatize well before continuing with the Annapurna Circuit Trek to avoid altitude sickness and ensure a safe and enjoyable journey. Day 8: Manang – Sirikharka (3850m) - Tilicho Base Camp (4150m) (7-8hrs Trek)

The trekking route from Manang to Sirikharka and then to Tilicho Lake Base Camp is a challenging and scenic section of the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal. The trail ascends through a high altitude terrain with stunning views of the Himalayan peaks and passes through traditional Tibetan-style villages, ancient monasteries, and yak pastures. Trekkers will also cross the challenging Mesokantu La Pass, which stands at an altitude of 5,099 meters, before reaching the Tilicho Lake Base Camp, located at an altitude of 4,140 meters. The Tilicho Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world and offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The trek from Manang to Sirikharka and then to Tilicho Lake Base Camp covers a distance of approximately 22 kilometers and can take around 7-8 hours, depending on individual hiking abilities and pace. Day 9: Tilicho base camp (4150m) –Tilicho Lake (5425m) – Sirikharkha (3850m)

The hiking route from Tilicho Base Camp to Tilicho Lake and back is a challenging but rewarding section of the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal. The trail ascends through a steep and rocky terrain with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. After a few hours of hiking, trekkers will reach the stunning Tilicho Lake, which is one of the highest lakes in the world. The lake offers spectacular views of the surrounding peaks and is a popular spot for photography and meditation. After exploring the lake and taking in the breathtaking scenery, trekkers will hike back to Tilicho Base Camp for breakfast before continuing the journey to Sirikharka. Day 10: Sirikharkha - Yak kharkha, (4120m) (3-4hrs Trek)

The trekking route from Sirikharkha to Yak Kharkha is a challenging and scenic section of the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal. The trail ascends through a high altitude terrain with stunning views of the Himalayan peaks and passes through traditional Tibetan-style villages, ancient monasteries, and yak pastures. Trekkers will cross the challenging Thorang La Pass, which stands at an altitude of 5,416 meters, on the next day, so it is essential to acclimatize well and take it slow. Day 11: YAK KHARKHA, (4120M) - THORANG PHEDI (4560M) (3-4HRS TREK)

and then to Thorang Phedi is a challenging and scenic section of the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal. Yak Kharkha to Thorang Phedi, which is approximately 5 kilometers further and takes around 3-4 hours. Thorang Phedi is a small village located at an altitude of 4,560 meters and is the base camp for Thorang La Pass. It offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and is a popular resting spot for trekkers before attempting the pass the following day. Overnight at Trekkers Lodge at Thorang Phedi.

Day 12: Thorung Phedi – THORANG LA (5416m) - Muktinath (3800m.) (about 8-10hrs Trek)

The trekking route from Thorang Phedi to Thorang La Pass and then down to Muktinath is a challenging and rewarding section of the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal. The day starts early with a steep ascent from Thorang Phedi to Thorang La Pass, which stands at an altitude of 5,416 meters. Trekkers will cross the pass, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, and is marked with prayer flags and a chorten. After crossing the pass, trekkers will descend to Muktinath, which is located at an altitude of 3,800 meters. The descent is steep and can be challenging, so it is important to take it slow and be careful. Day 13: Muktinath – Marpha - TatoPani - Enjoy Hot spring (about 5-6hrs Jeep Drive)

The road winds through the picturesque Kali Gandaki Valley and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and traditional villages. Along the way, trekkers can make a quick stop at the beautiful Thakali town of Marpha, known for its apple orchards, traditional architecture, and delicious apple products. After exploring Marpha, trekkers can continue their journey to Tatopani, where they can enjoy the natural hot springs, which are believed to have therapeutic properties and are a popular spot for relaxation and rejuvenation. Day 14: Tatopani – Pokhara (6-7hrs Jeep Drive)

The jeep drive from Tatopani to Pokhara is a beautiful journey that takes you through scenic countryside and traditional villages in Nepal. The distance between Tatopani and Pokhara is approximately 90 kilometers and can take around 6-7 hours, depending on road conditions and traffic. The drive follows the Kali Gandaki River and passes through lush green forests, terraced farmlands, and picturesque settlements. The road winds through the beautiful Annapurna Conservation Area, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Along the way, trekkers can make a quick stop at the charming town of Beni, which serves as the gateway to the Annapurna region. From Beni, the road continues to Pokhara, passing through scenic landscapes and traditional villages. Pokhara is a popular tourist destination known for its stunning natural beauty, serene lakes, and adventure sports. Day 15: Pokhara – Kathmandu (Half hr flight)

The flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu is a short but scenic journey that takes you through the beautiful Himalayan landscape of Nepal. The flight distance between Pokhara and Kathmandu is approximately 200 kilometers, and the flight takes around 25-30 minutes, depending on weather conditions. During the flight, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy stunning aerial views of the Annapurna and Langtang mountain ranges, as well as the Kathmandu Valley. The flight is operated by several airlines, including Yeti Airlines, Buddha Air, and Shree Airlines, and there are several flights departing daily. The Pokhara Airport is located approximately 5 kilometers from the city center, and the Kathmandu Airport is located in the city's eastern outskirts, approximately 6 kilometers from the city center. Clothing and Equipments

Certain basic trekking equipment are essential on all the routes that we have described in this site. Depending on the area and season, we will provide you with a comprehensive list of necessities. Here is the list of some recommended equipment required for trekking in Nepal.

CLOTHINGS :

1. Boots

Lightweight walking boots; If it is brand new, “walk them in” to avoid blisters. Also bring spare laces.

2. Track shoes

A pair of track shoes; To wear in the camp or when the boot is wet.

3. Jacket

A warm jacket; Fibre fills or down should be adequate. This is essential during winter from December to February. A rainproof jacket with hood or a poncho. Get the one that is guaranteed waterproof.

4. Shirt and Sweaters

Woollen shirts and thick sweaters; these are essential during the winter season (December to February). Thick sweaters can be purchased in Kathmandu. A lightweight long sleeved t-shirt is suitable for avoiding sunburn.

5. Trousers

A pair of trousers; Jeans are not suitable to wear on treks. Cheap, loose, cotton pants are available in Kathmandu. Heavyweight trousers are useful higher up in the mountains in the morning and at night. Windproof or waterproof trousers are required on all treks going above 10.0 ft.

6. Tracksuit

A tracksuit is comfortable to wear in camp and in the tent. You want to add at least two pairs of loose fitting long shorts or skirts.

7. Underclothes

Thermal underwear is the best for sleeping during the winter. 

8. Sun Hat, SunCream/Block & Lip Salve

Choose a high factor sun cream (Factor 20 or stronger) to protect your skin against the sun at high altitude. A combination sunblock/lip salve is ideal for facial protection.  A sunhat having a wide brim should be used which covers your face and neck.  A woollen hat is a must during winter. 

9. Glove/ Sandal/ Socks

 A pair of gloves; Leather with lining and woollen are best, 1 pair of sandals to wear in the cities and in the camp and about 4 pairs of thin and 4 pairs of thick woollen socks are required accordingly. 

10. Sleeping Bag

As you do not carry sleeping bags yourself, this can be either synthetic or down but it is a must for all 4 seasons. As most treks pass through a variety of climatic conditions, a long zip is a good idea. A cotton/fleece liner helps keep your sleeping bag clean. Good sleeping bags are expensive but can be rented easily in Kathmandu (Only for treks starting and finishing there.)

11. Personal First Aid Kit

You should have your own supply of plasters, aspirin, diarrhoea tablets and also a comprehensive blister kit. (Please do not give medicines to local people without consulting the trek leader.)

 

Equipments and Accessories :

a)  Duffle bag or kit bag to carry gear while trekking

b)  Daypack: This is a small rucksack to carry personal requirements for the day. e.g. toiletries, camera, film towel, soap, boots etc.

c)  Water bottle

d)  Snow glasses and sunglasses

e)  2-4 large plastic bags to separate clean clothes from dirty ones

f)  6 -10 smaller plastic bags to dispose garbage 

g)  Wallet or money belt with compartment for coins

h)  Toiletries with large and small towels. Toilet paper can be bought in Kathmandu and some villages in the mountains.

i)  Small headlamp or torch with spare batteries and bulbs

j)  Candles and lighter to burn toilet paper

k)  Snow gaiters required during winter 

l)  An umbrella (optional), which is quite useful as a sunshade and when it rains.

m)  Trekking map, adequate number of passport photographs

Optionals: rubber bands, a calendar, a pocket knife, binoculars, a small pillow or headrest, thermoses, an inflatable sleeping mat, etc.
